You Can Help Protect Your Community!
This free, four-hour course (using official Department of Water Resources training material) covers terminology, how to identify potential levee and embankment threats, flood protection methods, safety hazards, personal safety equipment, basic radio use and working near flood scenes.
You will learn sandbag construction techniques and observe sandbag demonstrations. When a flood happens, volunteers will show up and it will be up to trained volunteers to help them do the right things. Identifying failing levees and threats and properly placing sandbags requires training that can make the difference between a flood and a save.
You can make the difference.
Who should attend: Volunteer emergency groups (CERT, SAFE, Explorers, SAR, VIPs, etc.) and Amateur Radio operators involved in emergency communications. You need not be a Manteca resident to attend — this class is open to all volunteers.
