The San Joaquin County EMS Agency holds an emergency communications drill for hospitals and clinics at 1pm on the fourth Thursday of odd-numbered months. All licensed Amateurs are invited to check in and hear the kind of messages we might pass during a real emergency.

Dates in 2013 are:

  • 5/23
  • 7/25
  • 9/26
  • 11/28

The drill takes place on the 146.655 - PL 100.0 repeater. Please join us and participate.

Dear Reader:

This is my site and reflects my opinion. It is intended to offer ideas, examples and suggestions. It is not saying that I am right and you are wrong. This is a big world and EMCOMM is at least a little different in every locale. I am trying to discuss issues and uncover best practices. If you do things differently or have questions or comments, please share and help educate us all.

An Inexpensive Backsaver

If you occasionally need to move boxes of radio gear or office stuff, as I must for every HamCram, here’s an excellent way to spend $19.99. And save your back.

I am talking about the Magnacart, which Costco sells from time-to-time. This is a small folding handcart with a claimed capacity of 150 lbs.

I’ve never tested mine that hard, but a HamCram requires three or four heavy boxes and the Magnacart allows me to move them all in a single trip.

If you need to haul an emergency radio box, the Magnacart could probably do the job.

Likewise your hollow-state old “boat anchor” Collins or Hallicrafters rig.

I keep the Magnacart in the back of my car, so I always have it. Odd go-kit item, perhaps, but a useful one.
