VX-8 Update: $400 isn't too bad

Universal Radio has posted and I have seen at an HRO store, pricing for the forthcoming Yaesu VX-8, a tiny-talkie with built-in APRS and an optional GPS add-on. The radio itself will be just over $400. Adding a speaker/mic and the GPS that attaches on top of it brings the total to $600, including CA sales tax.

That is about $200 less than I’d expected the package to cost, leaving that money for the optional Bluetooth add-in and earpiece/microphone, I suppose.

Universal says the radio is due on the 23rd. HRO is hoping to have some in time for Pacificon, a Bay Area ham event that happens a few days earlier.

See my earlier post for more information about this radio.
